About Me

Hey, I’m Matthew du Toit, a Cape Town-based photographer and videographer with over 8 years of professional experience behind the lens.

I started this photography and videography blog to share what I’ve learned, what I’m still learning, and to help others grow their creative skills without needing fancy gear or film school credentials. Whether you’re a beginner wanting to learn photography, a creator looking to up your video game, or just want to streamline your workflow, you’re in the right place.

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work across a wide range of industries — from weddings and lifestyle shoots to branded content, commercial film work, events, and even wildlife. While many professionals niche down, I didn’t. I’ve always loved the challenge of adapting to new environments, new clients, and new styles. It’s taught me how to think on my feet, problem-solve with a camera in hand, and tell real stories with depth and purpose.

On this blog, you’ll find:

  • Behind-the-scenes of real-world shoots
  • Honest gear reviews and recommendations
  • Tutorials and how-to guides
  • Tips for turning creative skills into a business
  • A few of my own stories and missteps along the way

I keep things relaxed, honest, and practical — no gatekeeping, no jargon for the sake of sounding clever. Just helpful advice from a working photographer and videographer who knows the hustle and the reward.

Whether you’re shooting on a phone or a full-frame camera, creating social content or client work, I hope this blog helps you grow your confidence and creativity.

Thanks for being here — let’s make something.

– Matt
