Hey, I’m Matt du Toit, a Cape Town based photographer and videographer. This blog is here for you, to provide you with real-world tutorials, tips, reviews, and insight through my photography journey. We’ll skip as much of the jargon as possible, or at least explain it and brig it back to the real world.

First, a little about me. My journey started around 2017 while I was working at an event management company, taking my mom’s old Pentax K20D along with me. The realisation came to me while spending a year teaching in Thailand, exploring the country with my little point-and-shoot.

Since returning to South Africa I’ve gone all-in on photography and videography, working in sport, lifestyle, hospitality, food, travel, wildlife, and even two whole weddings.

While most photographers niche down, which is probably the best way to go, I never did and probably wont. I’ve always enjoyed learning new skills and overcoming the challenges that come with hopping across industries.

In this blog we’ll talk about some photography and videography basics for the beginners, some tips, tricks, and how-to’s for those looking to upskill, real-world reviews on gear, and some behind-the-scenes insight into my work life.
